My dad always says “The secrets to good health, are NOT secrets,” I love that saying! Mind you I grew up eating meat and potatoes and had a fridge fully stocked with Dr. Pepper at my disposal 24/7. My friends that weren’t allowed to drink soda, loved coming over.
So when I tried to be 100% vegan / raw, it was a bit of a shock to the system. I did this for 3 years guys. I remember walking into my modeling agency at the time and my agent asking me if I was sick, I said “No, I’m raw” lol.
For the most part I felt great! I did loose a lot of weight but my muscle tone just wasn’t the same. I didn’t need as much sleep, some nights only getting 4 hours. I watched forks over knives and other documentaries that turned me off of meat entirely. I started looking at food in a completely different way, asking myself what nutrients each meal was providing. I remember a fellow vegan once said, most people take better care of their cars, than they do their bodies and we only get one body. That visual made a lot of sense to me. Would you put red bull into your gas tank? Maybe not the best comparison but you get what I’m saying.
It was really tough in the beginning. It wasn’t as much fun eating out, and I felt like I was constantly having to explain my choices. It was a lot harder when I traveled, I really had to plan ahead. I did order tacos from taco bell, minus the meat… the key is the hot sauce.
I often found myself having low energy and slowly started eating organic chicken, and salmon. When I started eating meat again, I had a little bit of guilt, it was weird. I wasn’t sure how it would effect my digestion but I was fine.
I now eat organic eggs from the farmers market. It’s crazy the difference in organic eggs, the yolk is bright orange, apposed to light yellow. I traded in soda, for green juice, kombucha and green teas. I avoid red meat, but if I’m barbecuing with my friends + family, you know I’m eating a burger!
I’m happy I was so committed to it for so long, I learned so much about nutrition and what makes me feel my best. I think the most important thing in life is BALANCE. I just want everyone to feel their best. Much Love! XO
